About Cirrochroa emalea Guérin-Méneville
Cirrochroa emalea, commonly known as the Malay yeoman, is an Indomalayan heliconiine butterfly species. It was first described by Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville in 1843. This species is very similar to Cirrochroa tyche, but differs in several key traits: Cirrochroa emalea is more rusty orange, has a distinct constricted silvery band on the underside of its hindwing paired with a larger spot, and has broader black markings. In comparison, Cirrochroa tyche is tawny orange, has a narrower, more uniform silvery band, and has smaller spots on its hindwing. Identifying Cirrochroa emalea requires close examination of the fine details that distinguish it from similar species.
