About Cionura erecta (L.) Griseb.
Cionura is a genus of perennial plants distributed across Mediterranean regions, the southern and eastern Balkan Peninsula, and the area from Asia Minor to Afghanistan. This genus contains only one known species: Cionura erecta (L.) Griseb. Members of this species have woody stems, growing either upright or twining, and produce numerous sprawling herbaceous stems, along with poisonous milky sap. Their leaves are bright green and broadly ovate, measuring 7โ12 centimetres (2+3โ4โ4+3โ4 in) long and 4โ8 centimetres (1+9โ16โ3+1โ8 in) wide. From April to June, large clusters of delicate, fragrant white flowers grow at the stem tips. The plants produce fruits that reach 8 centimetres (3+1โ8 in) in length, which have a papery flap. Its seeds have a wide marginal wing all around their edge, and a terminal tuft of long white silky hairs. Since this plant is poisonous, goats and sheep do not approach it.
