About Cicindela littoralis Fabricius, 1787

Cicindela (Calomera) littoralis, with the scientific name Cicindela littoralis published by Fabricius in 1787, is commonly called the littoral tiger beetle. It is a species of tiger beetle that occurs across the Palearctic realm, and is particularly found around the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. One of its subspecies, Calomera littoralis nemoralis, was the first recorded member of the Cicindelidae (tiger beetle) family to show vegetarian feeding behavior; individuals of this subspecies have been observed feeding in large numbers on maize and cooked pasta.
