About Cicindela campestris Linnaeus, 1758

Cicindela campestris Linnaeus, 1758, commonly known as the green tiger beetle, is a widespread Eurasian tiger beetle species. It is the designated type species of the large genus Cicindela. This species ranges across Europe, from Spain in the southwest to Finland in the northeast. The majority of its recorded occurrences come from the UK, Germany, Austria, and southern Sweden. In Britain, most records of the green tiger beetle come from dry sandy or heathy habitats, including the heathlands of Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset, as well as the mountains and moorlands of the Scottish Highlands. The mollicute bacterium Entomoplasma freundtii, which belongs to the order Entomoplasmatales and family Entomoplasmataceae, can be isolated from the green tiger beetle.
