About Cicindela barmanica Gestro, 1893
Cosmodela barmanica, also known by the scientific name Cicindela barmanica Gestro, 1893, is a species of tiger beetle that occurs in Asia. This species was previously classified as a subspecies of Cosmodela duponti. It has a disjunct distribution: one population is located in the Western Ghats of India, while a second population stretches from Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India through Thailand and Myanmar to Malaysia.
Gestro first described this species in 1893 as a variety of Cicindela duponti, based on differences in the shade of its elytral edge and sutural bands. The specimens Gestro studied were collected by Leonardo Fea from the Karen Hills of Burma. In 1926, Horn classified the taxon as a synonym of Cicindela duponti. Rivalier later reclassified it as a subspecies in 1961, when he also established the new genus Cosmodela. The taxon was granted full species status in 2021, based on clear differences in both body coloration and the shape of male genitalia.
