About Chytonix sensilis Grote, 1881

Chytonix sensilis, commonly known as the barrens chytonix, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species is found in North America, with a distribution ranging from Quebec south to Florida, and from Michigan south to Texas. It was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1881. In the U.S. state of Connecticut, Chytonix sensilis is currently classified as endangered. The wingspan of adult barrens chytonix moths measures between 26 and 31 mm. Adult moths are active and on wing during late summer. The species' larvae feed by grazing fungi off leaf litter, most often from fungi growing on dead wood.
