About Chrysomela vigintipunctata Scopoli, 1763

Chrysomela vigintipunctata, commonly called the spotted willow leaf beetle, is a species of broad-shouldered leaf beetle that belongs to the family Chrysomelidae, subfamily Chrysomelinae. Adult beetles range in length from 6.5 to 9.2 millimeters. Both larvae and adult individuals feed on the leaves of their host plants, particularly species in the family Salicaceae. Their elytra are typically yellowish-green, with ten black spots on each elytron; their head and pronotum are black, with yellow edges. These beetles mostly inhabit forests, areas alongside lakes, and swamps, where they feed on willow and Populus species. They occur across most of Europe, Mongolia, the Russian Far East, and Japan. On 26 May 2016, a single dead specimen of this species was discovered for the first time in Britain, at Southwold beach in east Suffolk. A search of suitable local habitat for additional specimens was unsuccessful.
