About Chrysanympha formosa Grote, 1865

Chrysanympha formosa, commonly called the Formosa looper, is a moth belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1865. Its range covers parts of North America, extending from Newfoundland west to Manitoba, and south as far as the mountain regions of North Carolina and Tennessee. This moth has a wingspan that measures between 30 and 35 mm. Adult flight periods differ by location: they are active on the wing from July to August in Alberta, and from June to August in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This species produces one generation each year. Larvae of this moth have been documented feeding on Gaylussacia dumosa and plant species from the genus Vaccinium.
