About Chrysactinia mexicana A.Gray
Chrysactinia mexicana, commonly called Damianita daisy, is a flowering plant species in the family Asteraceae that is native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It has been recorded growing in Texas and New Mexico in the United States, and in Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, México State, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz in Mexico. This plant is an evergreen subshrub that grows up to 80 cm (32 inches) tall. It has a branched growth habit, and typically produces one flower head per branch. Each flower head holds bright yellow ray flowers and yellow or orange disc flowers. Its achenes are dispersed by wind, similar to the achenes of the common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale). Chrysactinia mexicana is sometimes grown as an ornamental plant, valued for its attractive flower heads and aromatic properties.
