This is the grasshopper species Chromacris speciosa, originally described by Thunberg in 1824. Adults are medium-sized, with an overall dark green base color, yellow stripes running across their body, and orange-red hind wings. Nymphs of this species are black and red. Chromacris speciosa is distributed across both South America and Central America. Documented occurrence countries include Ecuador (specifically in the Andes region), Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, eastern Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. This species prefers bushy habitats where the dominant vegetation belongs to the families Solanaceae, Myrtaceae, and Gramineae.
