Chromacris psittacus is a grasshopper species belonging to the genus Chromacris. The nymphs of this species have red and black coloration, and typically stay in groups. Both of these characteristics strengthen the aposematic signals they send to predators. Adult Chromacris psittacus have orange hind wings, which work in a similar way to startle predators when encountered.
