About Chorizanthe staticoides Benth.
Chorizanthe staticoides Benth. is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family, with the common name Turkish rugging. This species is endemic to California, where it is a common part of the flora in chaparral and scrub habitats across multiple regions of the state. This plant has quite variable morphology: it can grow as small low patches on the ground, or grow erect to reach heights over half a meter. Its leaves range in length from just a few millimeters to around 8 centimeters. Most of its leaves grow at the base of the fuzzy green or reddish stem. The top of the stem branches neatly into flat-topped inflorescences, which are densely packed with tiny flowers. Each flower has a cylindrical involucre base formed by six sharp-tipped bracts that can be colored red, purple, or green. Inside this involucre sits the pink to red flower, which is a few millimeters wide and contains nine tiny stamens.
