About Chorizanthe diffusa Benth.
Chorizanthe diffusa Benth. is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family, commonly called diffuse spineflower. It is endemic to California, growing along the Central Coast's coastline and mountains, in the sandy habitat of scrub, woodland, and forest. This plant ranges in form from erect to prostrate, and its stem is generally no longer than 15 to 20 centimeters. Its leaves grow up to 2 centimeters long and are mostly arranged around the base of the plant. Its inflorescence is a cluster of flowers, with each flower surrounded by six hook-tipped bracts. The bract margins that lie close to the long hooked tip can vary from very thin and nearly invisible to wide and obvious, and the bracts themselves can be green, white, or purplish. The flower itself is about 3 millimeters wide, white in color, and has a yellow throat. The tips of the flower's tepals can be smooth, jagged, or toothed.
