About Choristoneura occidentalis (Walsingham, 1891)
Archips occidentalis, which is referred to as Choristoneura occidentalis in some classification schemes, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. Note that the western spruce budworm, which has also been called Choristoneura occidentalis as a homonym, is now classified as Choristoneura freemani. This species is confirmed to be found in the Gambia, and it may also occur more broadly across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and South Africa. Its larvae feed on a wide range of host plants: Maesopsis eminii, Pinus patula, Vigna unguiculata, Allium cepa, Cajanus, Citrus (including Citrus aurantium), Coffea (including Coffea arabica), Corchorus, Cupressus lusitanica, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus torelliana, Glycine max, and Gossypium species.
