About Chlorophyllum rhacodes (Vittad.) Vellinga
This species, commonly called the shaggy parasol, is a large, easily noticeable agaric mushroom. Its fleshy white cap has thick brown scales and raised protruberances. Both the gills and spore print are white. The stipe is slender, uniformly colored with no patterns, and is bulbous at its base. It is fleshy; when cut, it develops a reddish or maroon discoloration and releases a pungent odor. Young caps start out egg-shaped, growing wider and flatter as they mature. Across all three species in this group, caps reach around 6 to 20 centimetres (2+1โ4 to 7+3โ4 inches) wide. The stipe grows 5 to 20 cm (2 to 8 in) tall, with a diameter of up to 2 to 3 cm.
