The green honeycreeper, Chlorophanes spiza (Linnaeus, 1758), measures 13โ€“14 cm (5.1โ€“5.5 in) in length and weighs 14 to 23 grams (0.49 to 0.81 oz), with an average weight of about 19 grams (0.67 oz). This species has a long decurved bill. Adult males are primarily blue-tinged green, with a black head and a mostly bright yellow bill. Adult females are grass-green, with a paler throat; they do not have the iridescence or black head seen on males. Immature green honeycreepers have plumage similar to that of adult females. The call of this species is a sharp chip.
