About Chlorocala africana (Drury, 1773)
Chlorocala africana reaches a length of approximately 19 to 24 millimetres (0.75 to 0.94 inches). It is the most common species in the genus Chlorocala. It has an elongated body with various shades of iridescent green, red, or purple; these body colours can also show reflectance in the near-infrared range of the spectrum. This wide colour variation has led many authors to describe numerous subspecies, which are of doubtful taxonomic validity. This species occurs in the Afrotropical region, specifically in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Togo.
