About Chloris monguilloti (Delacour, 1926)

Vietnamese greenfinch (scientific name: Chloris monguilloti (Delacour, 1926)) measures 13.5 to 14 cm (5.3 to 5.5 in) in length and weighs 15 to 16 g (0.53 to 0.56 oz). This species has a large conical bill, a black head, and a narrow bright yellow collar. Female plumage matches the pattern of male plumage but is less brightly colored. It is native to the Đà Lạt Plateau in southern Vietnam. It inhabits open montane Pinus kesiya pine forest, forest edges, and secondary growth, occurring at elevations between 1,050 and 1,900 meters, and has also been recorded at elevations as low as 600 meters. It feeds on pine tree seeds, and has been observed catching newly hatched termites in flight.
