About Chloantha hyperici (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
This species, formally Chloantha hyperici (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775, is also referenced under the synonym A. hyperici F. (15 d). Its forewings are grey. A thick black streak runs from the base below the cell; the basal area above this streak is whitish, while the area below it is dark fuscous reddish. This dark fuscous reddish color often also fills the cell, the submedian fold, and the terminal area beyond the subterminal line. The subterminal line is marked by a series of thick black streaks between the veins. The outer line is finely lunulate-dentate. Both the orbicular and reniform stigmata are brown with pale rings; the orbicular stigma is flattened. The hindwings are brownish, and are paler in males. Specimens collected from Andalusia, Spain have a distinct form, here described as ab. laetior ab. nov. In this form, males have hindwings that are white tinged with grey, with dark veins; the abdomen is pale grey, with pinkish lateral and anal tufts. The larva is red-brown, with yellow dorsal and subdorsal lines edged with dark brown, and a broad yellow spiracular line. The overall wingspan of the species ranges from 30 to 34 mm.
