About Chionochloa flavescens Zotov
Chionochloa flavescens Zotov is commonly called broad-leaved snow tussock, and known as haumata in Māori. This species is endemic to New Zealand, and includes several very similar-looking subspecies. Its leaves can grow up to one centimetre wide, which is larger than the leaves of most comparable tussock species. Its open flower plumes, which reach roughly 30 centimetres (12 inches) long, emerge between December and January. These flower plumes are more open than those of the related species Chionochloa conspicua and Chionochloa flavicans.
