About Chiomara asychis (Stoll, 1780)
Chiomara asychis (first described by Stoll in 1780; also referenced as Chiothion asychis), commonly known as the white-patched skipper or white patch, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species is distributed from Argentina northward through tropical America, reaching the West Indies and southern Texas. Stray individuals can be found as far north as southern Arizona, Nevada, and Kansas. The wingspan of adults ranges from 29 to 38 mm. Three to four generations are produced each year, and adults can be seen flying throughout the year in southern Texas. The larvae feed on Malpighia glabra in Texas, and on Gaudichaudia pentandra in Mexico. Adult butterflies feed on flower nectar.
