About Chiloglottis sylvestris D.L.Jones & M.A.Clem.
Chiloglottis sylvestris D.L.Jones & M.A.Clem. is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb that produces two leaves. Each leaf measures 30โ60 mm (1โ2 in) long and 12โ20 mm (0.5โ0.8 in) wide. A single greenish pink flower, 20โ26 mm (0.8โ1 in) long and 5โ6 mm (0.20โ0.24 in) wide, grows on a flowering stem that reaches 30โ50 mm (1โ2 in) in height. The dorsal sepal is linear to spatula-shaped, 10โ13 mm (0.4โ0.5 in) long and 2โ2.5 mm (0.08โ0.1 in) wide. The lateral sepals are linear, 10โ14 mm (0.4โ0.6 in) long, about 0.5 mm (0.02 in) wide, and curve downwards away from each other. All three sepals have a glandular tip that is 2โ3 mm (0.08โ0.1 in) long. The petals are lance-shaped, 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long, about 2 mm (0.08 in) wide, and curve downwards toward the ovary. The labellum is diamond-shaped, 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and 5โ6 mm (0.20โ0.24 in) wide. A reddish black, insect-like callus covers approximately two-thirds of the middle section of the labellum base. This large callus is surrounded by many fine, radiating, reddish, club-shaped calli and smaller red calli. The column has narrow wings. Flowering occurs from December to May. This small wasp orchid grows in moist locations within tall forest and rainforest, distributed between Eungella in Queensland and Robertson in New South Wales.
