About Chilocorus nigritus (Fabricius, 1798)

This species is very similar in morphology to Chilocorus subindicus. It has a body length of approximately 3.2 to 4.0 mm, and a sub-circular body shape. The elytra, pronotum, and outer margins of the elytral epipleura are a very dark pitchy black. The head, lateral parts of the pronotum, legs, and ventrum are yellowish brown. The lateral margins of the elytra are much paler than the elytral disc. In many females, the vertex of the head and lateral sides of the pronotum range from darker brown to black. The head is covered in fine pubescence, and its punctation varies from fine to moderately coarse. Punctation interstices on the head range from flat to convex. The pronotum is finely punctured, with flat interstices that become shiny on the pronotal disc. The elytra are shiny and lack microsculpture. They are finely punctured, with punctures separated by 3 to 6 diameters across the disc. In male genitalia, the median lobe has a broad basal half that is abruptly contracted at the base, and bulges sub-basally. The apex of the median lobe is turned ventrally when viewed from the side. The parameres are blade-shaped and abruptly angled. This species has been recorded in Agalega, American Samoa, Benin, Bermuda, Brazil, Eswatini, Ghana, Guam, Hawaii, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, New Caledonia, Oman, Pakistan, Reunion Island, Seychelles, Society Islands, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, Turkey, Uganda, the United States, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
