About Charaxes bernardus (Fabricius, 1793)
Charaxes bernardus (Fabricius, 1793) has a wingspan of approximately 7 to 9 centimetres (2.8 to 3.5 inches). The upperside of its wings is reddish brown or pale brown-orange, with dark brown to black speckles at the wing tips and small black marks along the margin of the hindwings. The underside of the wings features irregular wavy or tawny brown speckles and whitish zigzag bands. Males and females of this species look very similar. The confirmed known food plants for Charaxes bernardus are: Aglaia lawii, Aglaia roxburghiana from the family Meliaceae; Cinnamomum camphora, Litsea glutinosa, Litsea populifolia from the family Lauraceae; Sapium sebiferum from the family Euphorbiaceae; Adenanthera pavonina, Paraserianthes falcataria (also classified as Falcataria moluccana), Tamarindus indica from the family Leguminosae; and Acronychia penduculata from the family Rutaceae.
