About Chaptalia texana Greene

Chaptalia texana Greene, commonly called silverpuff, is a North American plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to Mexico, Texas, and New Mexico in North America. This species is a perennial herb that grows from a large root. Its leaves form a basal rosette that sits close to the ground. The underside of the leaves is covered in dense woolly hairs, while the upper surface lacks this dense hair covering. Plants typically produce only one flower head, which is carried on an unbranched stalk. The flower head nods (hangs downward) during the fruiting stage, but does not nod when it is flowering. The flowers are cream-colored when young, and turn reddish as they age.
