About Chaptalia nutans (L.) Hemsl.
Chaptalia nutans (L.) Hemsl. is a perennial, rhizomatous terrestrial herb. It has a short rhizome, short adventitious primary roots, and fibrous lateral roots. Its small stem bears sessile, hairy leaves that are 5 to 20 cm long, rarely reaching up to 32 cm, and 2.5 to 6 cm wide. Its peduncles grow 10 to 60 cm long, and it produces a nodding capitulum that holds 150 to 320 florets. The achenes of this species are 9 to 20 mm long, while its cream-coloured pappus measures 10 to 12 mm long. It grows in warm, humid, shaded habitats, and can also be found in habitats that experience seasonal droughts. In Brazil, its flowering and fruiting period runs from October to January, at the end of the dry season. It has uses in folk medicine, and it is easy to cultivate.
