About Chalcothraupis ruficervix (Prévost & Des Murs, 1842)

Adult golden-naped tanagers (Chalcothraupis ruficervix) share similar plumage with adult metallic-green tanagers, swallow tanagers, and blue-and-black tanagers: all are primarily blue with black facial masking. However, the golden-naped tanager is the only one of these primarily blue tanagers that has a golden or reddish crown patch or nape. Females follow the same plumage pattern as males, but their colors are duller and their nape patch is narrower. Juveniles of both sexes are primarily dull blue-gray, with lighter breast and belly, and do not have the distinctive golden nape.
