About Chalciope mygdon (Cramer, 1777)
Chalciope mygdon (Cramer, 1777) has a wingspan that measures approximately 36 to 40 mm. The head and thorax are dark red-brown, while the abdomen is greyish fuscous. The forewings are purplish grey, with an ochreous costa. A large red-brown patch covers most of the wing, leaving only the costal and outer areas uncovered. This patch is crossed by an oblique ochreous band. The costal and outer edges of the patch are bordered by reddish ochreous, and the angle between these edges is almost joined by a red-brown streak extending from the wing apex. A series of sub-marginal specks is present on the forewings. The hindwings are fuscous, and the cilia are grey below the apex and at the outer angle. The larvae are very slender pale bluish-grey semi-loopers, with fine darker longitudinal lines running along their bodies. These larvae feed on plants of the Phyllanthus genus.
