Chaetocnema hortensis (Geoffroy, 1785) individuals measure between 1.5 and 2.3 mm (0.059 to 0.091 inches) in length. Their body colour is bronze or coppery, and is sometimes metallic green. This species is distributed across the Palearctic region, reaching as far east as the Amur region, and is widespread across Europe.
