Native Range Core
This species is native to high mountains in eastern California. Its range extends through the Sierra Nevada from Shasta County to western Inyo County, and into the southernmost Cascade Range.
Outlying Populations
A small number of populations are also found in Washoe County, Nevada.
Habitat Preference
It grows in sandy or gravelly soils in subalpine habitats.
