About Chaenactis fremontii A.Gray
Chaenactis fremontii A.Gray can branch to produce many tall, nearly bare stems. Its sparse leaves are somewhat fleshy, long, and pointed. Each upright stem is topped with an inflorescence that usually holds one flower head, sometimes more. Every flower head contains a large number of densely packed disc florets. Very large ray florets may grow around the edge of this discoid head. The flowers are white or very pale pink. This species is native to the Southwestern United States and northern Baja California. It grows in sandy and gravelly soils in deserts and low mountains, including habitats in California's Mojave Desert and the Sonoran Desert. It can be found in California, Baja California, Arizona, Nevada, and southern Utah.
