About Ceriagrion aeruginosum (Brauer, 1869)

Ceriagrion aeruginosum is a species of damselfly belonging to the family Coenagrionidae, and it is commonly known as the redtail. This species has been recorded in Indonesia, the Moluccas, New Guinea, Australia, and may also occur in the Solomon Islands. Its natural habitats are freshwater swamps, ponds, and slow-moving streams. Adult Ceriagrion aeruginosum are medium-sized damselflies, reaching 45 millimeters in body length with a 50-millimeter wingspan. They are mostly red in color, and their synthorax fades to pale green as the damselfly matures. In Australia, this species lives in suitable habitats across the continent’s north-west and north-eastern regions, ranging from the area around Broome to the south-eastern border of Queensland. The taxon is listed as Least Concern version 3.1 on the IUCN Red List.
