About Cereus fernambucensis Lem.

Cereus fernambucensis Lem. is a shrubby cactus that grows with abundant branching, forming dense clumps that can reach up to 5 meters across. Its shoots are cylindrical, segmented, and pale green, often appearing almost white, and measure 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. This species has three to five thick, sharp-edged ribs that are slightly wavy. The large areoles on the ribs are brownish when young and turn whitish as they mature. It produces four to ten needle-like yellowish brown to bright yellow spines that grow up to 5 centimeters long. Its white flowers can reach up to 20 centimeters in length. The fruits are narrowly oblong, 6 to 7 centimeters long, crimson in color, and contain white flesh. Cereus fernambucensis is naturally distributed along the coast of northeastern Brazil.
