About Ceratina cyanea (Kirby, 1802)
This bee species, Ceratina cyanea (Kirby, 1802), has a size range of 5โ9 millimetres (0.20โ0.35 in) for females and 5โ7 millimetres (0.20โ0.28 in) for males. The head, thorax (chest), and abdomen all display a metallic blue color. Individuals of this species have three submarginal cells in their forewings, club-shaped antennae, and a long thin tongue. The scutellum is densely marked with small punctures. The seventh tergite features a deep saddle-shaped indentation, and ends in two points. This species is distributed across most of Western Europe, North West Africa, and the eastern Palearctic realm, with the exception of China. An undemanding species, it can colonize both dry habitats and wetlands. It is commonly found in forest edges, thickets, and gardens.
