About Cerastis tenebrifera Walker, 1865

Cerastis tenebrifera Walker, 1865, commonly known as the reddish speckled dart, is a species of moth belonging to the family Noctuidae. This moth is distributed across an area extending from Newfoundland to South Carolina; it ranges westward to Texas, and northward to Nebraska and southern Ontario. The wingspan of adult Cerastis tenebrifera measures between 30 and 40 mm. Adult moths of this species are active in flight from March through June each year. Larvae of Cerastis tenebrifera have successfully been reared on plant species including Lactuca, Vitis, Taraxacum officinale, Rubus idaeus, Salix petiolaris, Prunus virginiana, Betula papyrifera, and Vaccinium myrtilloides.
