About Cerastis leucographa (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
The forewing of Cerastis leucographa is pale brick red, with brown median and narrow terminal areas. The upper stigmata are prominently pale ochreous grey with dark centers. The teeth of the outer line are very long, and the veins beyond are dark. The hindwing is dirty grey, with darker veins and a diffuse terminal shade. The form lepetitii Bsd. is entirely red brown, lacks a pale submarginal band, and its stigmata do not have pale edging. The form suffusa Tutt is an extreme variant where the dark median shade expands to cover the whole forewing, turning it deep blackish red. The form rufa Tutt is pale bright red, much paler than the typical form. The larva is green or reddish with darker mottling. It has pale dorsal and subdorsal lines, a row of dark lateral oblique stripes, and a pale greenish spiracular line.
