About Ceramica pisi Linnaeus, 1758
This species, scientifically named Ceramica pisi Linnaeus, 1758, has a wingspan ranging from 32 to 37 mm, and forewings measure 16 to 20 mm in length. The forewings are red-brown, heavily mottled with darker coloring. The median shade is noticeably darker, and the wavy whitish submarginal line forms a distinct white triangle on the submedian fold. The upper stigmata are pale grey, while the small claviform stigma has a black edge. The hindwings are dull fuscous, with a paler basal half, dark veins, and a dark lunule. Several distinct forms have been described. In the form splendens Stph., brown coloring is dominant, and all markings are obscured. In the form rufa Tutt, markings are also obscured, as red coloring overwhelms the base brown. The form pallens Stgr. is pale yellowish grey-brown with indistinct markings, and occurs in western Turkestan and Iceland. The form scotica Tutt is a dark purplish grey form found in Scotland, England, Finland, Lapland, and eastern Siberia.
