About Cephalanthus salicifolius Humb. & Bonpl.
Cephalanthus salicifolius Humb. & Bonpl. is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the Rubiaceae family. Its common names are Mexican buttonbush, mimbre, botoncillo, and Jazmin blanco. Its native range stretches from the banks of the southernmost portion of the Rio Grande in Texas's Cameron and Hidalgo Counties, through most of Mexico from Coahuila to Oaxaca, with a separate disjunct population located in Honduras. Like other species in the Cephalanthus genus, Mexican buttonbush grows in wet soils found in riparian zones, swamps, and pond margins. It is a deciduous shrub or small tree, reaching 2.4โ5.5 m (8โ18 ft) in height and 1.2โ3.0 m (4โ10 ft) in width. Its oblong leaves can grow up to 12 cm (4.7 in) long and 23 mm (0.91 in) wide. It produces white flowers between March and July, and its fruit is a cluster of brown nutlets.
