About Cephalanthus natalensis Oliv.

Sylvainia is a genus of flowering plants in the Rubiaceae family. This genus is monotypic, meaning it contains only one species: Sylvainia natalensis. This plant is a scrambling shrub or tree, native to eastern and southeastern Africa. Its native range extends from southern Tanzania, through Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Eswatini, to Lesotho, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Northern Provinces of South Africa. Daniel Oliver first described this species in 1881 under the name Cephalanthus natalensis Oliv. In 2023, María Florencia Romero and Roberto M. Salas reclassified the species into the new monotypic genus Sylvainia.
