About Centromadia parryi (Greene) Greene
Centromadia parryi, commonly known as pappose tarweed, is a plant species belonging to the tribe Madieae of the family Asteraceae. It is native to North America, specifically found in California and northern Baja California. This species is an herb that can grow up to 70 centimeters (28 inches) tall. It produces arrays of numerous yellow flower heads that contain both ray florets and disc florets. Four accepted subspecies with known geographic ranges are recognized: Centromadia parryi subsp. australis (D.D.Keck) B.G.Baldwin, distributed from Santa Barbara County to Baja California; Centromadia parryi subsp. congdonii (B.L.Rob. & Greenm.) B.G.Baldwin, distributed from Solano County to San Luis Obispo County; Centromadia parryi subsp. parryi, distributed from Glenn County to Santa Clara County; Centromadia parryi subsp. rudis (Greene) B.G.Baldwin, distributed from Butte County and Mendocino County to Merced County, and also found in Modoc County.
