Cenchrus setosus Sw., commonly known as feathery pennisetum, is a grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. It was first formally described in 1788 in Prodr. Veg. Ind. Occ. This species is native to Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and South and Southeast Asia, where its native range extends from India to Indo-China. It has been widely introduced to tropical and subtropical regions across the Americas, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Asia. It is sometimes cultivated as a pasture or fodder grass. Two key diagnostic features used to identify this species are the soft, crinkled hairs that surround its spikelet, and its deciduous upper floret.
