About Celypha striana (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775

Celypha striana (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775 has a wingspan of 16–22 mm. This species displays high variation in color. Typically, the forewings have a light ochreous base color, with fine dark brown reticulated patterning. A well-developed darker brown transverse band is located in the middle of the forewings, with additional brown markings along the outer edge of the forewings. The hindwings are gray or pale brown. Julius von Kennel provides a full description of this species. This species occurs across most of Europe and the eastern Palearctic realm, excluding the far north and northern Asia. It prefers open grassy habitats, rough meadows, and roadsides.
