Celmisia alpina (Kirk) Cheeseman is a small perennial flowering plant. It produces white petals around a yellow central flower head. In field identification, this species can be recognized by its small size and narrow, linear leaves. It is distributed across the South Island and Stewart Island, where it is widespread and not considered threatened. It grows in montane and alpine regions, favoring particularly poorly-drained sites.
