About Celithemis fasciata Kirby, 1889

Celithemis fasciata, commonly known as the banded pennant, is a species of dragonfly that belongs to the skimmer family. This species is native to the United States, occurring across the country's south-central, southeastern, and eastern regions. It is most recognizable by the extensive, sharply defined black markings that cover its wings. The exact pattern of these markings varies a great deal between individuals: dragonflies from the northern portion of this species' range generally have less colored area on their wings than those from further south. Full-grown individuals reach approximately 33 millimeters (1.3 inches) in total length. This dragonfly lives in habitats around ponds, lakes, and ditches.
