About Celaenorrhinus mokeezi (Wallengren, 1857)

Celaenorrhinus mokeezi (Wallengren, 1857) is also scientifically referred to as Apallaga mokeezi. It is commonly known by the common names large sprite, large flat, and Christmas forester. This is a species of butterfly that belongs to the family Hesperiidae.

This butterfly is found in South Africa, ranging from Transkei to KwaZulu-Natal and Transvaal, and also in Mozambique. Its natural habitat includes coastal forests and montane forests. Males of this species have a wingspan of 40 to 48 millimeters, while females have a wingspan of 45 to 51 millimeters. In warmer regions, adult butterflies are active throughout the year, with population peaks occurring in late summer and autumn. The larvae of Celaenorrhinus mokeezi feed on Isoglossa woodii, which is also called buckweed.
