About Ceanothus foliosus Parry

Ceanothus foliosus is a shrub that can grow tall and erect, but it generally stays under two meters in height. It can also grow as a low-lying, sprawling plant. It has sparse small evergreen leaves that are 1 to 2 centimeters long, with toothed edges that bear glandular knobs. Small inflorescences grow on bare stalks, clustered with blue or lavender flowers that have prominent yellow anthers. The fruit is a capsule around 4 millimeters long, which usually contains 3 seeds. This species of Ceanothus is endemic to California. Its distribution covers the entire Coast Ranges and the northern end of the Peninsular Ranges.
