About Caustis recurvata Spreng.

Caustis recurvata, commonly called curly sedge or pubic hair sedge, is a species of sedge in the family Cyperaceae, native to Australia. This is a perennial, rhizomatous spreading tufted sedge, that typically grows to around 1.2 metres (3.9 ft) in both height and width. Its culms are erect and smooth, and are either scaberulous or hispid; culms measure 15 to 70 millimetres (0.59 to 2.76 in) in length, and 1 to 5 millimetres (0.039 to 0.197 in) in diameter. Botanist Kurt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel first formally described this species in 1827, in his work Curae Posteriores which was published in Systema Vegetabilium. Two synonyms for the species are recorded: Restio uncinatus and Caustis uncinata. Caustis recurvata grows in coastal sandy heath and mountain heath, and it occurs mostly along the coast. Its range extends north along the coast from south eastern New South Wales, and into south eastern Queensland.
