About Caustis pentandra R.Br.

Caustis pentandra, commonly called the thick twist rush, is a grass-like plant that is widely distributed across many parts of Australia. It can grow up to 2 metres tall, and is most often found in dry open forest or moist heathland. Its stems are shiny and pale green. The specific epithet pentandra comes from ancient Greek, and refers to the plant's five stamens. This species was first published in scientific literature in 1810, in Robert Brown's Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae; Brown was a prolific Scottish botanist.
