About Catocala ulalume Strecker, 1878

Catocala ulalume, commonly known as the Ulalume underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Herman Strecker in 1878. In the United States, its distribution ranges from Virginia south through Georgia to Florida, westward to Texas and Oklahoma, and northward to Illinois. The wingspan of adult Catocala ulalume measures 60 to 75 mm. Adults are active between June and September, and the species produces one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala ulalume feed on Carya alba.
