About Catocala serena Edwards, 1864

Catocala serena, commonly known as the serene underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This moth can be found in North America, ranging from southern Ontario, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut in the northeast, south to at least Tennessee, and west to Pennsylvania, Illinois, and at least as far west as eastern Wisconsin. The wingspan of Catocala serena measures 55 to 60 millimeters. Adult moths are in flight from July to September, with the timing varying based on the specific location. It is thought that this species produces one new generation per year. The larvae of Catocala serena feed on Carya ovata and Juglans nigra.
